Los Angeles-based surfboard builder and environmental advocate Ryan Harris is always looking for new and creative ways to make beaches and lineups a happier, healthier, more equitable places. And this holiday season he's at it again, this time raising funds to help support the mission of Kavata Kids, a non-profit organization that helps under-served, inner city youth learn to swim and surf.
As part of his 2025 Holiday Opportunity Drawing, Harris has built a beautiful 6'1" twin-fin fish for the (see photo below), but concedes that if this isn't the board of your dreams, he'll happily whittle you a custom sled. Included in the prize package is a set of fins from Naked Viking Surf, a leash from the folks at Lasso, a changing towel from Happy Faced, as well as some other goodies from the Eco by Ry shop.
A minimum donation of $20 gets you a ticket and enters you to win the board and gear. A $200 donation gets you 20 tickets. The drawing runs through December 19, so don't lag, this thing will be over before you can say "Saint Nick."
Understanding that being stoked in the surf starts with feeling comfortable in and around the water, the beneficiary of all this holiday cheer, Kavata Kids' mission is to "improve Black youth’s relationship with water by connecting them to local swim lessons and providing surf lessons."
