How Winning This Handmade Bike Also Builds Better Trails

The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship partners with top custom framebuilders for the Builders for Builders...

Supporting world-class trail building in one of the most iconic cycling destinations has just become more exciting. This annual fundraiser not only gives back to the trails - it also gives donors the chance to win a fully custom bike from some of the most respected framebuilders in the industry. Legendary names like SignificantOtherBikes, Retrotec, Sycip, Prandus, StinnerFrameworks, and Mosaic are coming together to craft dream builds, complete with top-tier components, all in support of the trails we love to ride.

The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS) has teamed up with a select group of renowned custom framebuilders to launch this year’s Builders for Builders trailbuilding fundraiser, and one lucky donor will take home a truly special prize.

How To Enter

For every $10 donation made between nowand September 30, 2025, supporters are entered for a chance to win a custom handmade mountain bike built by one of the industry’s most respected fabricators. The winner can choose their preferred builder, receive a custom paint job, and enjoy a dream bike build outfitted with high-end components from Paul Components, White Industries, and WTB.

SBTS

Much like the well-known SBTS "5 Bucks a Foot" campaign, the Builders for Builders program channels every donation directly into Lost Sierra trail-building efforts. To date, the initiative has raised over $100,000, supporting both trail expansion and community projects across the region.

Some 460 volunteers keep the Buttes' heart beating. Stewardship repays the debt by hosting rollicking trail-work days and epic rides.

What Are You Helping Build?

This year’s fundraiser will help fund major projects, including expanding SBTS’s footprint south toward Truckee and east toward Reno, while also pioneering new methods to build fire-hardened trails, a critical step in wildfire mitigation and sustainable trail design. Donations will also bring the community closer to completing the Beckwourth Peak Trail, a 13-mile non-motorized loop beginning at Portola City Park (home of the Lost and Found Gravel Festival). Once finished, Beckwourth will link with surrounding gravel roads to create an unforgettable mixed-surface adventure route featuring both gravel riding and singletrack mountain biking.

With less than a mile of rugged, rock-heavy terrain left to complete, the Beckwourth project underscores why campaigns like Builders for Builders are so vital. Unlike government grants, these cycling fundraisers provide unrestricted dollars that directly fuel the work of the SBTS Trail Crew, ensuring trails continue to grow, improve, and inspire riders for generations to come.
