Big news today, the second monograph titled EPICENTER by our own legendary skateboarding photographer and filmer Jacob Rosenbergis available today for pre order. We were lucky enough to get an advance copy, and it's a monster of beauty, information and nostalgia wrapped up in exquisite packaging and delivery.
"The new book presents a striking collection of previously unseen imagery and writing centred around an iconic landmark in skate history: Embarcadero Plaza in San Francisco which is actively being redeveloped without recognition of its subcultural legacy.
Rosenberg’s striking images capture the electricity of the local skate scene in real life and chronicle one of the most exciting eras where the heavyweights like Mike Carroll, Henry Sanchez, James Kelch, Chico Brenes, Karl Watson, Mike Cao and others are seen pushing the boundaries of skateboarding from the best tricks to skate fashion. Rosenberg’s iconic imagery has since then inspired generations of skateboarders around the world.
Creative directed by Greg Hunt and designed by Alexander Hansford, EPICENTER presents never before seen photographs, video frame grabs, interviews (Mike Carroll, James Kelch, et al), original essays (Ted Barrow Ph.D., Anthony Pappalardo, and Kevin Wilkins), and an original art print from artist Eric Merre. EPICENTER captures a golden era of skateboarding and presents a photographic homage to Embarcadero Plaza and its irreplaceable presence in skate history.
The publication of the book coincides with an exhibition opening at GCS Agency in San Francisco on 21 November with book signings taking place on 22 and 23 November.
