Street meat in Thailand hits different. Browse a local market, and you’re liable to find crickets, bamboo worms, water beetles, duck's beak, pig's blood, and even a red ant egg salad. Creed McTaggart opted to chow down on fried scorpion.
Unusual appetizers aside, the real appeal in this video from Rage (which just launched its online store in the United States and at select retailers) is Creed’s full-throttle approach on some warm azure peaks. The clip is part of Rage’s “Geramania” series, the brand’s take on delivering more regular short-form edits, a deserved break from its full-bore films. You can (and should) watch Shane Borland’s Indo-centric part here.
Creed and fellow Rage co-founder Toby Cregan, whose superb filmmaking skills shaped all five Rage movies, traveled together for three weeks in Indonesia and Thailand to create “Asia Down the Line.” If there’s a throughline to be found, it’s Creed’s consistent frontside carves atop a variety of pointy surfboards. His assortment of a Dahlberg, BMT and Serpent Sled shows us that he isn’t confined to one shaper or design. Just take in how he cuts that twinzer through numerous cones.
These boards are a far cry from the ones Creed grew up on as a young Western Australian flyboy. The outlines are a hark back to the late 1990s-early aughts: Narrow, thin, sharp and pointy, and not at all the conventional shapes you’d see on sales racks today. They place a premium on drive and hold at high speed. And they suit Creed like a new grip on a freshie.

“I think those types of boards actually complement Creed’s surfing with his drawn-out lines,” Toby said. “He started riding more bladey boards around 2018, and I think it was just a reaction to what was the norm at the time. He for sure does pull a lot of inspiration from surfing of that (early 2000s) era, but I think the boards actually work really well for his approach.”
Eccentric, anonymous, creative, powerful. Creed's surfing can be described in all of those terms and more. Enough chatter. Watch him deliver the sting.
